Elliot Seguin and Justin Gillen will be giving a tent talk on the engine development work done as part of preparation for the Aerochia/Farnsworth three kilometer closed course and time to climb records set at the 2015 Mojave Experimental Flyin. Specifically the search for the cause of four turbo failures (including one on the course at Reno) and how that added up to the fastest time to climb by a piston powered airplane in the record books.

Disney Planes and the leaked photograph

Hey Guys

The photo below got leaked on Facespace yesterday by an intern on the airport (Sam Bartell).  The photo shows more than we'd like, sooner than we'd like, but whatever.  Enjoy.

A little more detail on that day, the photo was taken when we were doing an audio recording for the upcoming Planes movie.  Rob Nokes of Sound Dogs is doing the sounds for the upcoming Disney Planes movie.  Rob has come out several times to record our aircraft and several others here at Mojave.  There are some pictures of that below.  Big thanks to all the folks at Mojave who flew for Rob!  And we are excited about the upcoming movie.

Jackson Harbor Freight hack

Hey Guys

I am sure everyone is already aware the Wildfire Air Racing Team has been working very hard on getting the airplane flying for a little while now.  Most recently they have made significant (and impressive) modifications to the underside of the aircraft.  This effort has been headed up by Unlimited race pilot Matt Jackson and the project lead Bill Statler.

The last few times I have been by the hangar I have noticed that Matt doesn't seem to get too far from a certain little red cart.  The cart appears to be a combination toolbox and work stand with all the necessary implements for fabricatiing, drilling, jigging, clecoing, and finally riveting on an airplane.  Matt modified a standard Harbor Freight Two Shelf 16" x 30" cart.  Chopping it down to a good working height (~20") for working on a short stool under the aircraft.

RARA 90 day rule

Hey Guys

I am sure everyone has heard already about the new RARA 90 day rule.  This rule requires any major mods or new aircraft to complete phase one testing (5 or 40 hours) and demonstrate test points at race conditions (Speed, G, and RPM) 90 days prior to the event in September, or June 1st.
